What is the process for designing and building one of your domes?
Typically, a customer works with an architect or designer to help conceive and lay out a floor plan, and ensure all aspects of their particular end-use is incorporated in the design. Curved By Design has some sample floor plans to assist in the early stage of the design process and is able to offer some ideas in this regard. Detailed custom designs will be completed by an architect within Curved By Design Inc.’s network or by the customer’s own architect or design professional.

Curved By Design Inc. is able to recommend engineers who will produce the blue prints (B1, B2) and structural drawings from the floor plans. Engineers in various jurisdictions will be identified to assist clients in their particular region and to meet any prescribed building code requirements.

A contractor is identified who will build and finish the project to the client, architect and engineer's specifications.
One major advantage to our building method is that the process to construct a CBD dome to lock-up is incomparably faster than most building methods. For example, a 500sf structure can be assembled on-site in about six hours.

Curved By Design Inc. provides the pre-fabricated curved wood panels and the pre-cut exterior sheathing for the structure, according to the design requirements. Custom sizes are available.

Our initial product offering is an engineered, curved wood building envelope, or shell.  Current sizes available are 25' (490sf) and 33' (855sf) base diameter, suitable for one or two-storey structures.

We are nearing completion of the research and development on a 16' (200sf) curved structure made with our uniquely-designed segmented dome system and intend to develop a 20' (300sf) model in the coming months. These smaller sized domes are ideal for kiosks, guest suites, backyard offices/studios, workshops, etc. and can also be grouped together to form "pods" or clusters to provide unique resort/tourist accommodation, office/workshop space, or residential configurations.
